Join me in the fight against AIDS.
I've signed up for my third AIDS Marathon and I've decided blog my progress, pains, fundraising glories, and whatnot for friends, family and onlookers. Please join me in this fight!
I'll be running the San Francisco Marathon on Sunday, July 30, 2006 and hope you'll join me. Well, you don't exactly have to run. You can read and donate. I'll run and send money through the National AIDS Marathon Training program to the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, to East Bay organizations who provide support to those fighting this dreadful disease, to assist in the development of an AIDS vaccine, and to provide AIDS services to developing nations.
Your job is easy. Stop by. Read my blog. Go to the the AIDS Marathon site (http://www.aidsmarathon.com/sponsor.asp?citycode=SF) and make a donation for me (runner number 6038...or anyone for that matter...just DONATE!). It's such a worth cause and I know you want to help!
I began this mission in 2002 with my first AIDS Marathon (Honolulu) and I was astonished by your generosity! And then, in 2004 you wowed me again when I did AIDS Marathon no. 2 in Alaska. I know you will be by my side here in 2006 as we fight against this horiffic disease.
Back in 2002, when I first decided to do a marathon I literally couldn't run two blocks without thinking that I'd either (1) collapse and die or (2) I'm going to collapse and die. That was February of 2002. I ran the Honolulu Marathon on December 8th that same year and finished. FINISHED! I couldn't believe it. In fact, at mile 20ish, I thought I might just die. And then, I thought about all the people who fight every day just to survive. And, pain I was feeling, I drew from somewhere inside me and decided that I'd come this far, that every day they fought harder than it takes a well person to run 26.2 miles, and I just kept running. And you know what? I crossed the finish line. And I cried. Out of astonishment, out of pride for my accomplishment, out of humility for being well.
